Swedish female leaders in the AI sector are breaking norms

In conjunction with International Women’s Day, Malin Blomberg, CEO of Zimply, highlights the importance of an inclusive, ethical, and sustainable future for the technology sector, along with two other prominent female leaders in the AI industry in Sweden, Anna Felländer and Linda Hellström.

AI has the potential to significantly increase global growth, with forecasts indicating a seven percent increase in the world economy’s growth in the long term. However, this development requires a conscious integration of sustainability, social responsibility, and ethical principles to achieve its full potential, according to the three leaders.

Importance of Gender Equality Perspective

Anna Felländer, CEO of anch.AI, emphasizes that without an ethical framework, AI risks reproducing and reinforcing outdated norms that discriminate and exclude women. AI can produce results that disadvantage women due to bias in data, algorithms, and the teams developing AI solutions.

“Validation of AI solutions from a gender equality perspective should be a prerequisite for innovation and commercialization of AI,” says Anna.

Important to Increase Representation of Women

Linda Hellström, who leads Sift Lab, highlights that women in the AI sector often face male dominance, which can affect the development process and the result of AI solutions.

“By increasing the representation of women in the industry, we can gain more perspectives on how AI systems should be developed and create more long-term sustainable solutions,” says Linda.

Technology Should Benefit Everyone

Malin Blomberg, CEO of Zimply, underscores the importance of seeing the human as the core of technological development and maintaining a “human-in-the-loop”.

“Our vision is for AI to serve as a complement to humans, not as a replacement. It is crucial that we steer development towards a future where technology benefits everyone,” says Malin.

As CEOs in the AI sector, all three take inclusion very seriously. They emphasize the importance of everyone in the industry needing to take great responsibility to ensure that technology and economic aspects go hand in hand with ethical values and sustainability.
